CAREER PLANNING:  Self- Assessment and Occupational Exploration

·         A six-session seminar designed for women who are exploring career changes or planning to re-enter the job market.

·         A Woman At Work career counselor will help you asses your talents, identify your skills and interest, explore occupations and find a career right for you.

·         This seminar includes self- assessment exercise, brainstorming and group discussions.

SALARY NEGOTIATION: How to Get the Salary You’re Worth

·         How can you convince the boss to give you the higher salary that you know you deserve?

·         This workshop is designed for people starting a new job or asking for a raise in their current position.

·         Workshop covers researching comparables salaries, strategy, timing, and negotiation practice.

OVER 50 AND JOB HUNTING:

·          Do mature workers get hired? Yes! Are there strategies that improve their chances? Absolutely!

·         Discover how successful older jobs seekers have turned challenge into opportunity.

·         We assist many mature job seekers and will share what has worked for them.

FIND A JOB NOW:

·         Designed for job seekers who know the field in which they would like to work, but need help now in finding a job in that field.

·         Find those hidden jobs and learn important research and networking techniques that will uncover job openings as well as up to date techniques about writing resumes and interviewing.

STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS:  Panel Discussion

  • This panel will future several successful women business owners who will share their secrets of success.
  • It will also include experts in business planning, marketing and finance to discuss the basic of starting a business.

CLERICAL JOBS-BETTER PAY

  • Looking for clerical job?
  • Come find out about higher paying jobs in the field that offer advancement and career paths. Presentation by PCC Professor, Shelly Gaskin and WAW Research Consultant, Gina Frierman-Hunt

CAREER RESOURCE ROOM  

 SUGGESTED CONTRIBUTION $2 PER VISIT.  MEMBERS FREE.  NO ONE IS TURNED AWAY FOR LACK OF FUNDS.

Our Resource Room offers the following:

JOB OPENINGS: Job seekers can look through thousands of current job listings from entry-level to professional. 

CAREER LIBRARY: Clients can make use of our many books, articles, magazines, videos and catalogs on career planning, occupations, training programs, job search and employer profiles. 

INTERNET COMPUTERS: Clients can have access to on-line job search daily and free internet orientation sessions are available to help with your job search on Tuesdays at 3:15 pm.

JOB SEARCH SUPPORT GROUPS: Share job search concerns with other clients and professional career counselors.

RESUME CRITIQUE GROUP: Bring in your resume for a review and learn how to create a professional looking resume.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

 SOLO:  Provides career counseling, computer classes and/or workshops to single parents or displaced homemakers in need of job and career assistance.

TRANSITIONS:  Provides career counseling, computer classes and/or workshops to women who are having difficulty making ends meet, including older workers.  This program is partially funded by the S. Mark Taper Foundation. 

LATINA PROGRAM:  Tuesday morning workshops on job search issues especially for Latinas.  Individual counseling with a bilingual counselor is available by appointment for those needing additional assistance.  Computer classes in Español available through this program. 

NEW HORIZONS: A free 6-week class to prepare women to re-enter school and/or the workforce.

INDIVIDUAL CAREER COUNSELING

Professional career counselor, focus on your career and job search issues.  With a professional career couselor, discuss a solution to one specific job search question

 

OCCUPATIONAL TESTING/CAREER ASSESSMENT

Individual administration of Strong Interest Inventory and Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator.  A career counselor interprets results, discusses your career situation, and helps develop realistic career options.  Next day results available. 

RESUME COUNSELING

With a professional career counselor, write and effective resume that highlights your unique skills.  Use our computer lab to format and print the resume, or make a second appointment for a finished copy.  Resume critique-bring your typed resume for an in-depth critique by a career counselor.

COMPUTER LAB AND CLASSES

INTRODUCTORY AND INTERMEDIATE COMPUTER CLASSES:

Classes offered in a professional, friendly and supportive environment.  Self service computer lab and other office services available.  Internet access with instruction.
